30 Unhealthy Food Replacements


It’s no secret that the Standard American Diet (SAD) is, well, pretty sad! It’s causing us all to be obese, unhealthy, dis-eased, cancerous, diabetic, autistic, nervous, mentally ill, …pill-poppers.

Sounds pretty bad, right? Well, there’s something you can do about it. You can start by making some good choices in your diet.

To help you do that, I’ve put together a list of replacements for common, far less healthy foods. If you make some of these substitutions, you’ll be on your way to better health.

The table below tells you what Healthy Alternatives to use. I’ve also linked many of them to some really great InfoGraphics that expand on each one for your edification and enjoyment.

The Best Cancer Diet Salad


The basis for an Anti-Cancer diet is going Raw Vegetarian with no meat and no diary. Sounds scary, but really, every salad (sans Chicken or Salmon) is RAW food. So, it’s not really that big of a deal.

When I got home from the hospital, I knew I had to make some changes immediately.  So I stopped eating meat and dairy.  The problem was, I did not know how to be a pure vegetarian.  I needed to learn more about it.  Getting vegetarian cookbooks was pretty confusing and really not helpful. They didn’t tell me what I needed to know about “cancer treatment.”

Then, I started reading Chris Wark’s blog called, “Chris Beat Cancer.” He’s been down this road too and he has a number of great posts including one on his own Cancer Fighting Salad. He even did a video where he demonstrated building one of these amazing creations.  I was completely enrolled and decided start doing these type of salads every day.

My Cancer Fighting Salad

My version of the cancer-fighting salad starts with a layer of salad greens followed by, but not limited to, any/many of the following items:

  • Chopped Carrots
  • Chopped Radishes
  • Sliced Red Onion
  • Sprouted stuff
  • Green, Red and Yellow Peppers as available
  • Chick Peas, Black Beans or other Legumes (great sources of Protein)
  • Sliced Tomatoes
  • Sliced Cabbage
  • Sliced Cucumbers
  • Chopped Nuts or Seeds (Almonds, Walnuts)
  • Bubbies Sauerkraut

bubbies-sauerkrautFor dressing, keep it simple with Olive Oil and Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar.  Sometimes, I keep it even simpler than that.  I just pour the water from the Bubbies Sauerkraut over the salad.  So my dressing is Olive Oil and Bubbies.

Bubbies Sauerkraut is totally consistent with Doctor Budwig’s observations about the benefits of fermented foods.  Lactic-acid-fermented foods are a cornerstone of Dr. Budwig’s protocol.  For more information on the Budwig protocol, see this post.

Of course, you can add your own favorite ingredients to the salad.  Finally, though, you MUST top it off with some super cancer-fighting spices!

Cancer Fighting Spices


There are some wonderful spices that are extremely cancer-fighting in their own right that I add to my salad and the other food that I eat.  There are MUST haves if you are serious about fighting cancer.

The four organic spices you want for your salad are: Oregano, Garlic, Cayenne Pepper, and Turmeric.

Turmeric has been used in indian food and Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. Turmeric contains the powerful cancer-fighting polyphenol Curcumin. Curcumin has been clinically shown to inhibit growth of all kinds of cancer cells while, at the same time, inducing apoptosis (natural cell death) in cancer cells.

Oregano is full of antioxidants and antimicrobials. One teaspoon of oregano has the same antioxidant power (ORAC) of two cups of red grapes because of the phytochemical Quercetin, which slows cancer growth and promotes apoptosis.

Garlic is a very powerful anti-cancer spice. Studies have shown it lowers the risk of developing all types of cancers. It has strong antibacterial properties, enhances DNA repair, slows cell reproduction and induces apoptosis.

Cayenne Pepper’s active ingredient is Capsaicin. That’s the stuff that sets your mouth on fire when you eat it. Capsaicin also kills cancer cells by causing Apoptosis.

I recommend you use all four of these cancer-fighting spices in a salad dressing or by simply sprinkling them on your salad when you make it – that’s what I do.

There are other spices that have varying importance in fighting cancer and you can find out more about them yourself. But these four are the must haves.

There is one more must have that I include in my juicing: Ginger. It’s related to Tumeric and it’s also very important in a cancer fighting diet.
