It’s no secret that the Standard American Diet (SAD) is, well, pretty sad! It’s causing us all to be obese, unhealthy, dis-eased, cancerous, diabetic, autistic, nervous, mentally ill, …pill-poppers.
Sounds pretty bad, right? Well, there’s something you can do about it. You can start by making some good choices in your diet.
To help you do that, I’ve put together a list of replacements for common, far less healthy foods. If you make some of these substitutions, you’ll be on your way to better health.
The table below tells you what Healthy Alternatives to use. I’ve also linked many of them to some really great InfoGraphics that expand on each one for your edification and enjoyment.

I recently had the honor of being interviewed by my friend, Louis Vitiello, and his partner on his podcast show, “Vegan vs. Carnivore.” It was a great conversation. I got to tell my story and talk about the systemic nature of Cancer Cures and how we can all get control of our health. Have a listen!
A Cancer Cure is only required because your immune system has been compromised by years of neglect. We go through our life thinking, it’s OK, this one meal will not harm me and we think…tomorrow, I’ll have a salad. We eat fast food and we think...tomorrow I’ll have a salad. We eat pizza with extra cheese and we think…tomorrow, I’ll have a salad. And I ask,
“All this for a piece of cake?”
It’s true, we are wired to really love sugar, salt and fat. Especially sugar. You can get a slice of cake from the Cheesecake factory, you can get as much as 5000 calories of pancreas busting sweetness, enough calories to survive for several days! Everywhere you go, our food is literally designed to be simply irresistible!
So, every day, we eat just one more piece and promise ourselves that we will make a better choice…tomorrow.
What are the results of this “maybe tomorrow” behavior?
Obesity, Heart disease, Adult onset Type II Diabetes, Fibromyalgia and all kinds of other mysterious systemic problems, and ultimately, the breakdown of the immune system and the growth of Cancer in the body.
And I ask, “All this for a piece of cake?”
I wish I could instill the desire in everyone to rethink immediate gratification and putting off until tomorrow what we should be doing today. Sadly, I don’t know how…yet. But I’ve not given up.
My journey has taught me the hard way. I did not make any changes until I was literally too afraid not to. When I found myself recovering from surgery with a diagnosis of stage IV colon cancer, I was firmly in tomorrow land. Tomorrow had come and I had choices to make.
Do I start taking care of myself today? Right now? Or do I wait, again, until tomorrow?
Fortunately, I decided that immediate action was required. The first better choice I made was to start eating vegetarian food.
Then, everything changed. It took a few weeks before my hunger pangs stabilized and then, magic happened. My blood sugar levels stabilized, leveled out and I was no longer hungry all the time. My energy levels stopped rising and falling like a roller coaster. I did not feel like I was going to pass out unless I ate my next meal immediately.
It reminded me of giving up caffeine only not as severe. Giving up caffeine makes your head feel like it’s going to explode for up to a week and then it goes away and you’re ok. Classic withdrawal symptoms. Giving up sugar is more subtle and not quite as uncomfortable. But after a few weeks, you feel so much better!
I know this to be true because I have gone through it, and so have many others. My own sister finally decided to give it a try and the symptoms of her mysterious fibromyalgia were mitigated for the first time in 20 years. Modern medicine never suggested she modify her diet. And only when she did, did her symptoms abate.
Another example – My friend’s wife was presenting with tongue cancer for the second time. The first time, she subjected herself to surgery to remove it. What was ahead of her this time was more surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, a whole lot of pain and very likely an ultimately horrible death.
Fortunately, I met with my friend and his wife and let them know about what I was learning on my journey. She decided to give the protocol in chapter 5 of Bill Henderson’s book, Cancer-Free, the same protocol I’m using, a try.
The results? The cancer on her tongue disappeared and has not returned. It required no surgery, radiation or chemotherapy treatments.
Let’s be perfectly clear. I’m not insisting that Bill’s protocol is ‘a’ or ‘the’ cancer cure for everyone or anyone. But it’s powerful medicine as in Hypocrates saying, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine by thy food.” It helps rebuild your immune system, stabilize your blood sugar, reduce the omega 6 fats that suppress your immune system, reduce your weight without dieting, and overall, completely changes the way you feel for the best.
In the best cases, there are hundreds and hundreds of testimonials from people who have found their cancer cure in this and similar natural protocols. At worst, like me, they got all these benefits and also mitigated the side effects of chemotherapy. Many other people, after going through several rounds of chemo, finally got their cancer under control only after adopting such a natural protocol. Others, even more severe, had been sent home to get their affairs in order and prepare to die, only to get their cancer under control and go into remission.
Obesity, heart disease, … Cancer…, all this for a Piece of Cake?

Just watched this video and all I can say is that everyone needs to watch this movie. We are slowly being poisoned every day to make us all into patients for the pharma companies by their sister aggro-business companies. Many countries already outlaw these, many require GMO labeling. Why don’t we get our legislators to get this done for US?
GMO food effects EVERYTHING folks. Fertility, allergies, digestion, all the way down to our genes. We have autism and cancer rising at frightening rates. We are seeing our arable land becoming devoid of essential minerals and nutrients making it impossible to grow organic natural foods on these lands where pesticides are REQUIRED to grow GMO foods. Insects are dying off. The entire natural food chain is being destroyed by the GMO industrial complex.
They are doing it with the fish and animals as well. GMO fish have the potential to completely destroy wild fish populations if the are “accidentally” released in a natural habitat.
GMO environmental and food poisoning needs to be on every cancer patient’s agenda. Don’t eat them and use your Votes to defeat them.
Last weeks post mentioned the 5 Keys to a Healthy, Cancer-Killing Immune system. This week, we’ll expand on each of the 5 keys. If you followed last weeks post, you know that you must choose to live, choose to change your lifestyle, and learn what that means in terms of the specifics. I.e., you need to know what to eat and what to not eat, for example.
1 Eat Organic, Natural Vegetarian Food
Before I even knew anything else, I knew that a vegetarian diet was best for us. Funny how I knew that, but didn’t act on it until I was diagnosed with cancer? It is said that most people only really change when they are too afraid not to.

Guilty as charged. Immediately after surgery, I started eating a vegetarian diet. I went vegan and cut out all meat and diary, and minimized all forms of sugar and glutenous flour. That means I eat mostly Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts and Legumes. You might think that’s boring. But there are some rather tasty spices that are also chock full of anti-cancer ingredients that makes it all taste great! Among the most important spices are Turmeric, Cumin, Oregano, and many others. Juicing of veggies is also a major part of most healthy diets. Alternative cancer treatments start with some form of vegetarian diet as a base and build on top of it. There is a wonderful website you can check to research this more called CancerTutor.com. Take a look and you’ll see just how essential it is to cut out the meat and diary.
Most important, avoid sugar – and the taste of sugar (sweet) – like the plague. Anything that metabolizes into
2 Alkalize your body
Most people eating a typically western diet suffer from acidosis. Acidosis is an acidic ph balance in the blood and throughout the body. It is widely recognized that disease and especially cancer likes to to live in an acidic body. The opposite is also true. Cancer can not live in an alkaline body. Take a look at the recently posted PH Food Chart and look at the right side columns to see what foods promote a healthy alkaline PH in your body. Acidic bodies are also lower in oxygen vs. Alkaline bodies which are higher in oxygen. Cancer cells are anaerobic and hate oxygen. This is why you don’t see “Heart Cancer” because the heart is the most oxygenated organ in the body getting oxygen directly from the lungs and then sending it to the rest of the body.
3 Lower your stress
Stress is more detrimental to your health than you think. Half of the US population suffers from stress related ailments. Psychological stress causes your body to generate chemicals that have adverse impact on your health overall. Cortisol is one of those chemicals that can cause all kinds of problems. Read about Cortisol it here.
Areas to look to reduce stress are:
- Your Environment. Look around you. Do you like your room? Is it a mess? How about your apartment or home? Is it conducive to relaxing and being safe and comfortable? Could you use aroma therapy like diffusing essential oils to help you relax?
- Your Job. Do you like your job? Is your job stressing you out? Can you get a job that you might enjoy more?
- Your Relationships. Surround yourself with people with positive attitudes. You don’t need to have people around you talking about negative or upsetting topics while you are recovering from cancer.
- The Nightly News. Do you really need to fill your mind with negative stories about the horrors of daily life? ‘nough said.
- Exercise. See below. Exercise is essential
- Spirituality. Whatever you believe, there are some essential concepts that you need to consider. Forgiveness is one. Grudges. Hating. Being Angry. Find a way to forgive and let it go. If you are holding onto a old offense or hurt, let it go. You don’t need it and it’s killing you, however slowly. If you pray, then speak to your God. If you don’t, then do what you need to do to find peace.
Overall, do whatever you can to reduce stress in every area of your life. Every little bit counts! Just do it.
4 Take Natural Supplements
Augment your immune system with the Immune System strengthening and supporting natural supplements that you need for your body. I know that there are literally thousands of supplements out there at the local vitamin shop or GNC store. But there are certain things that you simply must have and you may have to supplement to get it. For example, if you don’t get a lot of sun, you will need to take vitamin D. Many reportedly effective alternative cancer treatments make use of well chosen supplements to help you heal and boost your immune system.
Supplements simply can not be ignored in a cancer therapy. With Cancer, your immune system is compromised (or you would not have grown cancer). You need to mend your immune system as quickly as possible. You can only eat so much food at a time. No matter how good the food, you will need MORE nutrients than you can get from the food to initially stem the tide of cancer in your body.
I’m following the supplement regimen recommended by Bill Henderson in his book, Cancer-Free. All I can say is, it’s working for me. It’s cost effective and extremely potent.
That’s right, Exercise…and do it for the rest of your life! I read a great book called, “Younger Next Year,” by Chris Crowley. In Younger Next Year, the authors assert that you need to do something aerobic 4 times a week and strength training like [preferably] lift free weights twice a week – for the rest of your life.
That may sound brash, but it’s true. Remember the old adage, “Use it or lose it.” If you don’t exercise, you will soon BE an “old adage.” Seriously, though, cancer cells are “anaerobic.” That means a cancer cell’s metabolism does not require oxygen, nor do they like it. Cancer cells “eat” glucose. The more sugar you consume, the better your cancer cells like it. This is exactly why I suggested above that you avoid sugar and sweeteners like the plague, unless you want to feed your cancer.
What we are talking about is not just a few minor changes in your life, but a complete overhaul of your lifestyle. But it means you have a choice. You can choose to change your life and live happily for a long, long time, or do the standard chemo/radiation and be on the 2-5 year “cure” plan?
That is the question, as Hamlet put it so concisely. In my next article, I’ll expand on the 5 Keys to a Healthy, Cancer-Killing Immune System.
Again, I ask you, What are you going to do?
For all those that love you. For yourself. For all the people in your life whose lives you can be part of, I implore you to Choose Life! Carpe Diem. Seize the day.
It’s clear. You are the cure to your own cancer. It’s all you.
That may be scary. You might rather that there really was a magic pill. But there is not. You simply must choose to nurture and cure yourself.

When I was first diagnosed on January 10, 2014, I knew what most people know about cancer. I knew that it’s bad – very bad. I knew that people died horrible deaths from it after some very unpleasant treatment that made your hair fall out.
Scary? Oh yeah. There’s nothing scarier than a death sentence of an unknown duration. It’s how someone on death row feels.
Fortunately, I was informed that I could not start chemo therapy until I had healed from the surgery. You don’t want to doubly stress the body from surgical healing + chemo at the same time. Best to let the surgery heal first.
This healing time turned out to be a great gift. I spent the next 6 weeks researching cancer and cancer treatments. It was a period of stunning revelation, to say the least.
I originally thought, “I guess I’ll do chemo and anything else that’s good for me.” After several weeks of research, however, it was quite clear there was no way I was going to allow my first course of treatment to be chemo.
Just the Facts
The research showed me there are basically two lines of thinking on the subject of non-mainstream cancer treatments. One is political and economic. The other is health and biology based.
The political and economic argument reads like a rant which I will spare you the details of for another time. The short version is that the cancer industry and the current available treatments (slash-poison-burn) form a massive and profitable segment of our economy providing millions of jobs and hundreds of billions of dollars in cash flow. Anything that would disrupt this segment of the economy is not to be tolerated. This argument, while compelling, does not explain what cures cancer. It only explains why you should not take the word of the medical establishment as the final word on cancer treatment.
The health and biology argument is at least as compelling and offers excellent cancer-fighting approaches.
Almost immediately, I learned that no matter what else I did, I needed to start eating a vegetarian diet. Initially, I didn’t know much else, but that was a good start. So, I went vegan and cut out meat and diary, and minimized all forms of sugar and glutenous flour. I did this part while I was healing from the surgery.
OK, I’m a vegan. The next question was, do I trust chemo to “kill” my cancer (along with most of my immune system), or, do I do something else?
Answering this last question was the magic. I learned that our bodies have all been killing cancer all our lives. We’ve been doing it all along with our immune systems. The problem is that our immune system is compromised and cancer is growing.
So, what happened? When did my immune system stop working?
More important, can I get my immune system to start working again? Can I repair my immune system so it will do what chemo does – kill the cancer in my body?
This was the key insight. It’s my immune system, DOH! Repair my immune system and I’ll live a long life.
How to Repair Your Immune System
Here’s what I learned about repairing your immune system. Here are the 5 Keys to a Healthy, Cancer-Killing Immune System:
- Eat natures own Organic, Natural Food – Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts and Legumes
- Alkalize your body (Most westerners suffer from acidosis, an acidic ph)
- Lower your stress – all kinds of stress.
- Augment your immune system with Natural Supplements
- EXERCISE…for the rest of your life!
This clearly means not just a few minor changes in your life, but a complete overhaul of your lifestyle.
It also means you have a choice. You can choose to change your life and live happily for a long time, or do the standard chemo/radiation and be on the 2-3 years left plan?
That is the question, as Hamlet put it so concisely.

Your Biggest Mindset Challenges
“Won’t people think I’m crazy for not doing what ‘medical science’ wants me to do. What will my family say?”
This is the first mindset shift needed when changing your lifestyle. Friends and family, doctors, will meaning people who want you go get well but know only what you see on TV and what your doctors tell you: Surgery-Chemo-Radiation.
“It’s hard to eat well. I can’t buy this supposedly good food in restaurants. I don’t know how to eat well – nobody taught me.”
This is the second level of resistance that your own mind will try to pull over on you. It’s fear based. The mind looks for evidence in all the wrong places when faced with change and fear. You have to suppress your fear so you can think clearly and see through the fear fog.
What are you going to do?
Chose to to live. Carpe Diem. Choose to stand up in the face of other people’s, as well as your own doubts. Learning to eat well. Find mentors, read books, research for hours-on-end on the Internet, read articles and watch videos.
This is what it really means to change your mindset and your lifestyle. For a cancer patient, it’s change or die.
